Meet our 2019 Cohort from Nanjing University:

Xiao Ge (Gussie) is very well-spoken and majors in Journalism and Communication. She likes Photography and Basketball. She has a social media account for photography. She is a member of the women’s basketball team of journalism and communication. She works in 3 campus media – fact-checking, audio and teenage culture on campus. She opened a campus cafe in a new building. She is very active. She has taken part in many voluntary activities – education for the poor and care for the elderly. She has taken the following courses: Understanding journalism, introduction to communications studies, media and society, international journalism, history of foreign journalism, visualisation application, visual communication design, news photography and practice of speech communication, constitutional law, logic and thinking. Main projects: Fact checking campus media and won the best investigative reporting piece with her colleagues, she has a personal blog and has participated in the Python programming – design and model to detect fake news using big database.

Hanting Ying (Hannah) majors in journalism. She likes films, mixology, photography and guitar playing. She loves travelling and has visited over 20 cities in 7 provinces in China. She studies Introduction to Communication, History of Journalism, Understanding media, Interviewing and news writing photography, video clip, social research methods. She has participated in many activities – Youth league committee, Poverty alleviation. She is dedicated to improving the lives of others around her. She participated in opening of the News Coffee to bring news to students. 

Zhiying Yan (Yim) is very passionate and active. She loves street dancing and is very good at delivering presentations. She likes extreme sports, such as Bungee Jumping. She also does directing and shooting and worked on a project documenting the lives of the Sanitation workers in china. She won the national student film award. She studies Humanities Journalism combining history, law, journalism and communication. She participates in big anniversary shows of her school and competitions, such as the Asian Universities dance competition, which her team won. She is a member of the Student Exchange programmes club pairing up foreign students with chinese students. She won a concert/event host competent. 

Yue Cao(Jessica)loves travelling and taking photographs. She is very well-read and is very familiar with the works of Oscar Wilde and used his references in her presentation. She is a very good speaker with deep thought and sophistication of expression. She is a proactive volunteer. She has participated in Learning Enterprises China 2018 working with students from USA and the Netherlands to offer English lessons to local primary school chinese students. She took part in Harvard CollegeAuscr Sumit for Young Leaders in China offering Harvard experience on campus for students. She wants to write for theatre.

Yutian Gao (Lillian) is a movie fan and likes shooting movies and has shot several short films. She writes the stories and directs her own movies. Courses she has done: Journalism, sociology, media and society, Western media studies, Reporting, Interviewing, writing, photography, visualisation, cross-cultural communication. Strategic communication. She has worked on Reporting projects, Visualisation products, and social research projects: College students’ attitude towards death. She has participated in a Campus Media project (NJU Fact-check). During her time, she wants to learn more about Scotland, the BBC and shooting documentaries. 

Ruoyu Liu (Gloria) is a very good presenter. She loves taking photos, she is a member of the debate team in her school, She volunteers and focuses on rural development. She is a member of the students union and the campus media. She studies Discovering news, obtaining information, writing news reports, shooting, software like photoshop. She has participated in video reporting projects – The scene of the fire, simulated love activities of college students, data news, shooting events, creating posters. She likes to learn more about Reading film and television and understand the differences between Chinese and Britsh journalism courses and wants to improve her English reporting skills. She wants to do a postgraduate course in journalism.  

Wenjun Fan(Sybil)is a very well-spoken and talented girl. Great command of English. She has a strong sense of responsibility, loves reading and debating. She is gregarious in a social group, but enjoys spending time alone as well. She is an excellent student and only has 90+ on her courses. She is a member of the Debating team of Nanjing University and she has won several national and international competitions. She also plays an instrument ‘Erhu’. She loves reading fiction and watching films. She enjoys writing and photography. She has a social media account ‘WeMedia’ to practice writing. She has done a lot of portrait photography. She is the vice president of the Studetns’ Union. She took part in a social investigation program in Japan. She worked as an editor of the official media of Journalism and Communications College in NJU. She participated in a project doing oral history of the 40th anniversary of the reform and opening-up policy. Fact-checking regarding the Hong Kong protests. She wants to be a scholar and do research. She studies a minor degree (Journalism and English Language and Literature). She wants to find out how UK journalism postgraduates are educated and trained before they become journalists. She wants to do a master’s degree and a PhD. 

Ziyi Wu (Max) has a nice public speaking ability. Apart from a great academic proclivity, Max has an interest in sport, especially Basketball. His projects are: Media convergence and has publications in one of China’s best media agencies. He participated in a project giving advice to the City’s public transportation authorities. He is part of the Symphony orchestra and the fact checking service. He also has certification in emergency and rescue services. 

Yike Zhang (Yeeky) possesses good presentation skills. Apart from Journalism courses, she has taken philosophy courses and other inter-disciplinary courses. She has won an outstanding reporting award in China with her school team. She isa chief editor of the campus media ‘Home Letter’. She has participated in many exchange projects. She participates in teaching activities to help poor pupils in the mounainous reagions in China. She organises many big activities like the New Year celebrations.

Xinya Jiang (Alexandra) likes musicals and the opera. She did In-Depth reporting for journalists and were commissioned to find breaking news around them and write features with specialist topics. She wants to be a journalists and was a journalist working for two newspapers before she started her undergraduate degree. She is a journalist in the studetn newspaper and wants to go on a do a master degree in journalism. She looks forward to learning more about international journalism. 

Ruiqiu Chu (Rachel) is a good presenter. Her English is very good. Her thought is very clear and concise. He likes hand crafts – making intricate wooden wheels, kites,  bubble water and cooking. She records videos of activities and her crafts for social media. She has taken about 60 courses in the past two years. Apart from the journalism courses, she took physical education, reading and logic. She has done an internship in the school media – Future Newsroom and NJU fact check. She is an editor in charge of the Domestic Media group and does verification of foreign news reports by domestic media. 

Han Wang (Hannah) likes taking photos. She is a backstroke swimmer in the NJU swimming team and was a president of their swimming club. She has represented the school in regional and national competitions. She likes travelling alone and hopes to be a travel journalist. She did poster design and video editing for student clubs and planned the first water fun competition in NJU. She took theoretical calsses such as history of Chinese and Foreign journalism, western media studies. More interactive courses were international journalism and international communications with a lot of presentaitons. Practical classes included reporting, fact checking  and video production. She won the best interpreting report in NJU for Hong Kong reports. She has a varied intersts and took Introduction to the Universe and astronomy courses. She loves Peter Hestler travel journalist and wants to be like him. 

Hanting Ying (Estella) Apart form journalism, she loves astronomy. She is not very confident, but has good presentation skills. Excellent English. She has taken news photography and visual communication design, data visualisation. She also studied English. She has done two internships in Xinhua Daily Press Group writing reports for news papers and online news applications. She wrote news reports. She also did an internship in Topline consulting and brand management corporation and she was responsible for brand management of three clients in the company. She has organised many operas, concerts and ballets aiming at introducing traditional and foreign culture to the students. She is a member of the Nanjing University Model United Nations and organised Youth Road Table Conference and broadcasted international news to the students. She visited the United Nations in Geneva and participated in the Global Youth Leadership academy talking about gender gap in the workforce, jobs in disaster, social innovation. She has done a lot of voluntary work teaching in the local school with French counterparts. She wants to go on and study in the Northwestern University or the University of Southern California. Very good student and pleasant to listen to. 

Ruoqi He (Dorris) has an excellent command of English and is a good presenter. She likes watching Koren and American drama and listening to music. She participates in two organisations: Nanboone – film department and AIESCEC – Care and cultural immersion for foreign students in Chinese culture. Apart from journalism courses, she took Political Theory and Ideology. She took visual communication, graphic design and video production courses. 

Sihan Fu (Beta) Apart from her journalism and communications degree, she also likes astronomy. She studied communication studies and is familiar with names such as Walter Lippman, Paul Lazarsfeld, Marshall McLuhan. She did courses in interviewing and writing as well as how to use adobe photoshop and premiere. She is a part of the official media platform of NJU’s Journalism and communications school. She produces articles and reports analysing current and popular media phenomena. She also is a volunteer teacher teaching Chinese traditional card fold and paper cutting. She also teaches Chinese to pupils. 

Qi Chen (Chelsey) likes her family and likes listening to Folk Music. She will use her time in here to improve her English and learn programming and SQL and she is interested in Data news.

Shihan Wang (Echo) is very confident and speaks English very well. She has excellent presentation skills. She is a leader of a nonprofit organisation which helps to enrol graduates who want to devote themselves to voluntary rural and educational activities and is a member of the NJU network TV station. She likes mystery plays and reading suspense novels by Agatha Christie. She loves photography. In addition to journalism and communication classes, she also studies Civil procedures law, Family law and Inheritance law, American law and Media Ethics and Law. 

Mingming Feng (Gent) is our class monitor (course representative). He is a good presenter. Apart from the traditional journalism and communication subjects, he has taken News Photography. He has also taken Economics, history of Western Design, Swimming, Reality and Calculus. He loves photography. He likes travelling. He has a public WeChat account for photography. He also likes technology. 

 

 Mingrui Wang (Marine) is an active student who likes sport, cycling, basketball and football. He also likes e-sport. He likes travelling. He has taken courses in Practice of Speech Communication and live broadcasting, Visualisation Applications and News Photography. He is looking forward to combining the academic study here with sport activities. 

 

 





Meet Our 2018 Cohort:

Wenyu Bian (Beryl) is a very active member of Nanjing University. She has been a member of the Students’ Union and member of the campus medium. She has worked on investigative pieces. Some of the courses she has taken are: journalism and communication, data journalism, interviewing in journalism, professional writing and video production. Major projects: fact-checking, breaking news, short videos. Aspirations: international reporting and commentary. She wants to be a financial commentator.

Yihan Xia is a part of the Honours Class of Journalism and Communication of Nanjing University. Some of the courses she has taken include: interviewing, writing, data journalism, video production, visualisation, fact checking, sociology, marketing and PR. She has written investigative journalism pieces for a newspaper. She has also shot short documentaries and participated in data journalism projects. She is a good presenter and public speaker. She has done internships in a broadcasting corporation and a newspaper. Aspirations: interviewing, television production and directing.

Zepeng Gou (Penny) has been a general manager of a TV programme in China. She started as a camera-person and then became a programme director. Some of the courses she has taken include: understanding media, media literacy, communication, traditional media skills, new media skills, legal news, video news, data journalism, visualisation application. She has made microfilms and written screen plays. She is very skilled with Illustrator and Photoshop and has excellent info-graphic skills. She has help a position as an intern at a broadcasting station. Aspirations: strong interest in fact checking and writing and she wants to be a sports news caster.

Zhihui Xian (Erica) is the class representative and the first point of contact between the students and the programme co-ordinator. She has done both theoretical and practical courses in Nanjing University. Some of the theoretical courses include: job studies, media studies. Some of the practical courses are: news, interviewing, visualisation, data journalism and video production. She has also done internship with media organisations.  Aspirations:  She wants to do political communications and is interested in new technologies.

Xuefei Hu (Sherry) is one of our most creative students and possesses excellent PowerPoint and digital skills. She is a very good photographer. The courses she has taken in Nanjing University are journalism, video production, advertising, writing news reports, capturing news on video, video production. She has done video and newspaper reporting. Chief editor of NJU fact-checking project. She had previously been the editor of the fact-checking service and now she is the chief editor of the project. She likes doing research and getting information to produce a news story. Aspirations: she wants to pursue a postgraduate degree.

Chunchun Xie (Angel) likes reading and learning new things. Some of the courses she has taken are: understanding media, media literacy, media case studies, intercultural communication, western media studies, speech communication, data journalism, video interviewing, writing and news writing. Apart from journalism, she has also taken courses in social psychology, art history, Western art history. She is doing English-Chinese translation and is a very good story teller. She has also studied data journalism. News bulletin, feature, interpretative reporting, investigative reporting, video technology and filming. Aspirations: she wants to do photography, interviewing and video production.

Shuqi Liu (Suki) is a Pop music fan. She is a member of the debate team of Nanjing University, as well as part of an information platform in China. She has studied: Western media studies, inter-cultural communication, skills of journalism, basic interviewing in journalism, writing news reports. Filming techniques, video production are also among the courses she has taken so far. She has done visual infographics and has experience creating infographics using Adobe Illustrator.

Jixuan Ye (Apricot) has worked in the Ministry of Culture in China. In the University of Nanjing, she is the president of the Students’ Union. She is interested in photography. Some of the courses she has taken are: English, interviewing, news writing, video production, fact checking and media theory. She has made a microfilm. She likes photography and film-making. Aspirations: she wants to be a film director.

Xiaomeng Liu has studied courses in media literacy, visual communication, intercultural communication, news interview and writing  with a focus on feature writing and breaking news writing. She has also done video technology, including video capture and video production as well as visualisation application (Adobe Illustrator).

Wanqi Yue (Maggie) is an avid lover of film and theatre. She likes all aspects of the film industry and has a deep knowledge of film-making and production. She is a captain of the debate team of Journalism and Communications Faculty of Nanjing University. She has studied news interviewing, video production, sociology, theatre studies and social psychology. She’s won a lot of trophies as a debater. She has done data journalism. She wants to visit the BBC.

Xin Shen (Coco) has a very good understanding of visual presentation of data. She works as a graphic designer. She is a member of the Nanjing University’s fact-checking project. She has done excellent work with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. In addition to graphic design, she does video games creation. She has done an internship in a newspaper where she did data visualisation and data mining. She works with different programming languages and has created very complex 3D models.

Siyu Zhang (Nancy) has various interests: from climbing and writing to running and photography. Some of the courses she has taken in Nanjing University are: news interviewing and writing. She likes issues of social importance. She likes interviewing and uses interview techniques in her work. She has done fact-checking. She is interested in news as non-fiction drama. She has made a film. Aspirations: she wants to be a journalist or a documentarian.

Xinyu Zhang (Sharon) has very good PowerPoint skills and has directed and shot multiple short videos. Some of the courses she has done in Nanjing University include: video production, origins of editing, editing techniques and advanced writing. She is very creative student with a strong interest in issues of social significance.

Yuan Sun (Christin) has very good presentation and speaking skills. Her hobbies include acapella and singing. Some of the courses she has done so far include: journalism and video production, media theory and psychology as well as economy. She has a good knowledge of the video editing software Adobe Premier. She has done a lot of theoretical modules. Aspirations: Postgraduate qualification is what she would pursue after she graduates next year. She wants to be an academic.

Yijun Wang (Evelyn) loves journalism and communication. Her main subjects in Nanjing University are journalism and television. Some of the modules she has done include: understanding media, media case studies, media literacy, data journalism, media convergence and reporting, fact-checking and professional news interviewing. She has also done video technology and video production. She has undertaken an internship with a broadcasting corporation, where she did brand integration, programme planning and production.

Danye Zhou (Ashley) has very good social skills and is a good presenter. The courses she has done in China are: news interviewing and writing, video production and photography. Among the projects she has worked on include classified reports in economics, reports on China’s urbanisation and development as well as shooting and editing video. She studied data visualisation of news using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to produce impressive infographics. Intercultural communication and Western media research are also among the courses she has taken. Aspirations: magazine journalism, photography, film production. She is interested in pursuing a postgraduate qualification in film production.
