Cultural Immersion Programme

Educational Trips

Learning outcomes – The Educational trips will complement the classroom-based learning of the Nanjing students by increasing their awareness of organisations producing a real-life output and impact in society.

There will be four study trip in this programme to four of the following destinations of students’ choice: • BBC Scotland (Glasgow) – first week trip • Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh (two trips – cultural programme and tour) • Daily Record • Media Scotland • Question Time on BBC (audience members) • DC Thompson – Dundee • BBC – Orchestra concert Contact hours: 6 contact hours for four weeks on Thursday. We will have a bus which will take you to your destination and back.

Social Trips

Learning outcomes – The social trips will help students learn about the local culture and traditions of Scotland as well as explore the surrounding areas. During the inductino week, you will go to Glencoe.

Thereafter, students can choose from a number of options below: • Dunbar (see food) • Glasgow Science Museum • Stirling Castle / Museum • Stirling Ghost Tour • Glasgow City Centre (Museum of Modern Art, City Chambers, Merchant City) • The Kelpies • St. Andrews • St. Andrew’s Day ceilidh Contact hours: 6-8 contact hours. We will have a bus which will take you to your destination and back.

Health and Well-being

Health and Well-being – You will spend a lot of time in the classroom. However, it is important to remember to exercise regularly. We have world class sport facilities, swimming pool, gym, courts, pitches for you to engage in group sport activities. This will require a sport membership, which will allow students to use all sport facilities of the University, including the gym and the 50-meter swimming pool. This will help students finish the week with a team-building exercise which will relax their minds and have them engage in an outdoor activity. Contact hours: Saturday and Sunday. This is a voluntary component of the programme and each student will need to purchase a sport centre membership. Find more information at the sport centre reception.
